ABOUT ME
Hello!
I offer sensitive, responsive, and effective family law services relating to marriage, divorce, custody, child protection, and other legal areas. I chose to become a lawyer because I believe that all people deserve access to legal services that protect their rights in a democratic society. I am dedicated to serving the needs of children and families as they navigate stressful changes in their lives and relationships.
My goal is to be a good listener, a clear communicator, and a passionate advocate through whatever challenges you face, enabling you to build a better future for yourself and your family. I personalize my services to your needs, and as a sole practitioner, I develop a deep understanding of your case as the only lawyer representing you. While I practice alone, I maintain strong relationships within the Toronto and Ontario family law communities. You can be sure that I bring a well-informed, up-to-date, and cost-effective approach to all of my cases.
I attended law school at McGill University, obtaining a Bachelor of Civil and Common Law in 2011. While at McGill, I worked in two Montreal legal clinics, clerked for Judge Eva Petras at the Quebec Superior Court, and completed research on domestic violence and judicial continuing education at the National Judicial Institute in Ottawa. I articled at the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, Office of the Children’s Lawyer, where I represented children in high-conflict custody and access cases, and other litigation matters. I then worked as an intake lawyer at Justice for Children and Youth, a Toronto-based legal clinic for children, teenagers, and street youth. As an associate at a small family law firm in Toronto’s Danforth Village, I worked on matrimonial litigation, separation agreements, child protection files, and other matters. It has been very rewarding for me to run my own practice since March 2017.
I am a member of the Ontario Association of Child Protection Lawyers (www.oacpl.org) and Co-Chair of the Board of the Family Lawyers Association of Ontario (www.flao.org). I currently serve as Chair of the Board of ArtBridges, a non-profit network of community arts organizations serving under-resourced communities across Canada. I am also an active member of the Law Union of Ontario. When I’m not in my office, you can find me relaxing with my husband and toddler at our home in East York.
TESTIMONIALS
Caroline D., Toronto
From the first meeting with Ms. Masemann I felt connected, respected and heard. She listens and does a thorough investigative work while preparing your case and defending yours and your children's rights. She is not afraid to go out there fully and demand what is just. She has a deep understanding of the issues of child welfare and family violence. She is deeply intellectual in the matters of family law. With Ms. Masemann I became fully aware of my and my children's rights and felt supported by her all the way until the end and beyond. With her diligent work she brought justice; a change to a previous custody order that was not reflecting the reality. She works tirelessly defending your case. I can warmly and wholeheartedly recommend her. She changed my and my children's lives for the best and I could not be more grateful. She truly is an amazing lawyer.
